Corporate Social Responsibility Forum, where Droga Kolinska acts as one of the founders, organised a volunteering campaign called "Our Belgrade".
Droga Kolinska volunteers decided to clean up the Great War Island on the Danube and spend time with children from the Day Care Center for Street Children.
One group of volunteers was cleaning up river waste deposits from the Great War Island shoreline. The biggest problem is a load of floating PET packaging on the Danube and Sava rivers that easily reaches the island shores and having settled in there, tends to linger forever.
Great War Island is a compact entity and a unique nature reserve situated in the heart of Belgrade. Not many cities possess a location like this to be proud of, but it is also gravely threatened due to urbanisation.
Even the muddy ground after the rain previous night failed to discourage our volunteers. They put all their effort and energy in collecting waste, cleaning up this oasis in the core of Belgrade, and their satisfaction with what they had accomplished was evident after the campaign.
The second volunteer group visited the children in the Day Care Center for Street Children, wanting to make at least one of their mostly gloomy days better.
The Center developed into a safe house where these children could get a meal and some clean clothes and also have a psychologist, a social worker and a nurse who stand at their disposal.
After the initial hesitation, the atmosphere loosened up and mutual communication became friendlier through teamwork in creative workshops. The workshops took place in the open, accompanied by loud cheering, because it mattered who came first in the balloon dance competition, train game, quiz on animals, mime games. And it all fell into place during the visit to the famous Belgrade Zoo.
The little ones ran around the Zoo under the attentive eye of the volunteers. And the inhabitants seemed to be more vigorous then usually. Perhaps they see and feel some things better than people? Who knows? But it appeared as if they really understood the little ones.
HAPPY TOGETHER!
Cooperation and social interaction between the company and the society as well as with individual members of that society are a hard and responsible task. Therefore, Droga Kolinska chose a campaign slogan to depict the very best of these social relations. Such undertakings end with a smile on both sides. A smile of satisfaction, success and happiness. And that’s why we named it: Happy together!
